New Music Workshop gives upper-level students at the University of Windsor School of Music an opportunity to explore different aspects of new music (composition, performance, improvisation, analysis and interdisciplinary work) within a community of collaborators. Founded in 2006, the NMW has given more than twenty performances of student compositions, contemporary masterworks, and improvisations. Central to the New Music Workshop are the commitments to musical diversity, experimentation, and collaboration. 2008 events included a program of the music of Frederic Rzewski, a program of improvisational works directed by artist-in-residence Rodney Sharman, the third annual Phunk Phest at Phog Lounge, and several concerts of student compositions. Participation in the New Music Workshop is open to students who have completed Music Theory IV (32-213) or by permission of the instructor. Coming events for 2009-10 include: Drive Thru Symphony Twitch (in time) Five ideas about the Relation of Sight and Sound Alpha Bravo Charlie Romeo Sierra Tango X-Ray Yankee Zulu
